Avery McCoy
Cellist
Avery McCoy has been playing for 14 years and teaching cello lessons in the Metro Atlanta area since 2010. In addition to instructing students in lessons, he has frequently coached cello sectionals at various middle and high schools. He has taught and occasionally conducted for the KSU String Project from 2013 to 2015. Additionally, as his personal favorite form of classical music, he thoroughly enjoys coaching chamber music and has done so frequently for GYSO chamber groups, KSU Summer Music Clinic, and chamber music programs in schools.
Mr. McCoy also enjoys performing as much as teaching. He has played with the Georgia Philharmonic as well as Georgia Symphony. He has performed with the KSU Philharmonic and was a finalist in both the KSU Concerto Competition (2013) and Georgia Philharmonic concerto competition (2012). He also served as the Principal Cellist of the Kennesaw State University Orchestra. Mr. McCoy has performed for several master classes including classes with Michael Mermagen and David Ying. He has performed in chamber music master classes with the Pacifica Quartet, Aspen String Trio, Ying Quartet, and Eighth Blackbird.
While at KSU, Mr. McCoy also had the opportunity to perform in several operas, ballets, and even with the rock band Kansas at the Cobb Energy Center. Most excitingly, Mr. McCoy traveled to China with the KSU Symphony and performed in a three-concert tour in Xi'an and Beijing. Avery McCoy has a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Kennesaw State University (2015) where he studied with Charae Krueger.
